Bob Wilson is the main protagonist of the Twilight Zone episode Nightmare at 20,000 Feet. He was played by William Shatner.

Biography[]

Bob Wilson was a salesman who, on an airplane flight, realized a Gremlin was attacking the wing of the plane. He made several attempts to

alert other passengers and the crew. The pilot eventually walked back into the cabin to talk to him and initially appeared to believe Wilson's claims, but Wilson quickly realized that he was being patronized by people who dismissed him as delusional and he ceased attempting to warn others.

Stealing a firearm, Wilson tied himself into his seat and flung open the door, eventually shooting the Gremlin and driving it off. He is later hauled off to an insane asylum, saving the plane but losing his freedom.

Trivia[]

  • In the original short story by Richard Matheson, Wilson is mentally disturbed, and it is never entirely clear whether the creature is real or merely a product of his unwell mind.
  • In the film adaptation of the episode, the character's name was changed to John Valentine.
  • In the new 2019 revival, his name is changed to Justin Sanderson.
